Remembering Bill Holmes
December 18, 2018
It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of longtime friend to Arkansas bankers, former President & CEO William R. Holmes, who passed away Monday, December 17, at his home in Little Rock.
Bill was known for his quick wit, mischievous smile, and his ability to connect with others. His knowledge of financial services and government policy was a complement to his big personality and strong work ethic. Together, Bill and his wife Rita traveled across the country serving as ambassadors for Arkansas bankers and were well-known throughout the banking community. He was an advisor, friend and confidant for many bankers and colleagues, and will be dearly missed.
Bill Holmes had been the president & CEO of the Arkansas Bankers Association since 2011. Prior to joining the ABA in 2003, he worked with several of central Arkansas banks including Twin City Bank, its successor, Mercantile Bank, and Metropolitan National Bank. Bill’s responsibilities were predominately in the Trust and Wealth Management Divisions of the banks. From the early 1980s to 1990, Bill worked with Townes and Co., and Stephens Inc., as an investment banker working with banks and savings and loans in the Midwest.
Services will be held on Friday, December 21, at 1:00 p.m. at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in West Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the CARTI Foundation or Baptist Health Foundation.
