4:15 p.m. Important Updates to the Uniform Commercial Code
Cliff McKinney

In the summer of 2022, the Uniform Law Commission is expected to adopt the most comprehensive changes to the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) since the adoption of the Revised Article 9 twenty years ago. The changes are aimed at addressing new and emerging technologies that have challenged traditional notions of money and assets. The changes to the UCC include the creation of a brand-new Article 12, which will provide the legal framework for assets created through distributed ledger or blockchain technology. But, the changes do not stop there and include revisions to Article 1’s definition of “money” to include electronic currencies and revisions to Article 9 to address security interests in electronic assets. The amendment will change Articles 2 and 2A to address new hybrid categories of products blending contracts and services. The amendment will also make changes to Article 3 to harmonize with recent federal banking regulations that deal with electronic images of negotiable instruments. Our speaker will guide you through these changes so you can be prepared for the changes that are expected to become law in 2023.
